80th Anniversary of the a Pearl Harbor Attack

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack.

At 8 a.m. on December 7, 1941
 (December 8, Philippine date),
more than 300 Japanese aircraft
unexpectedly attacked the
United States naval base at Pearl Harbor
in Honolulu, Hawaii.
It is estimated that more than 2,000
 American soldiers were killed,
1,000 wounded and 20 naval vessels,
 including eight American warships
 were destroyed. This prompted President
Franklin D. Roosevelt of America to
declare war on Japan. After the attack on
Pearl Harbor, Japan next attacked the
Philippines. This was the beginning of the
outbreak of World War II in the Pacific.
